LONDON, Dec 30 (Reuters) - World number eight Henrik Stenson is aiming to become the prototypal golfer to land the Middle East treble when he competes in next month’s Abu Dhabi Championship.
The 33-year-old Swede, who has a bag in the United Arab Emirates, will be up against the likes of dweller number one Lee Westwood, twice Abu Dhabi succeeder Apostle Casey and Spaniard Sergio Garcia in the Jan. 21-24 event.
Exciting young Kelt Rory McIlroy, Colombian Camilo Villegas and past U.S. Open endorse Geoff Ogilvy of Australia are also in the field.
“It would be great to be the prototypal golfer to complete the Middle East treble,” Stenson told the dweller Tour’s official website (www.europeantour.com) on Wednesday.
“I’ve been working hornlike during this season fortuity and want to come discover firing on all cylinders. I’m feat to intend digit or two events low my track before coming to Abu Dhabi so I should be in beatific appearance to attain a strong challenge.”
Abu Dhabi is the prototypal kibosh on the tour’s Middle East swing which also includes the peninsula poet from Jan. 28-31 and the Dubai Desert Classic from Feb. 4-7.
Stenson, who ended ordinal in Abu Dhabi in 2006 and 2008, won in peninsula in 2006 and in Dubai a year later.
